VEF stands for Valsts Elektrotechniska Fabrika, an electronics company founded in Riga, Latvia in 1919. They were also called Riga VEF Radio Works. VEF made aircraft, phones, computers, cameras, radios, boomboxes and more. VEF boomboxes were made in the USSR.
